How Bio-Feedback can improve your Performance & Health

Ian Woosnam currently leads the Seniors Tour Order of Merit8 years ago I was introduced to the Institute of HeartMath, a nonprofit organization researching heart intelligence and producing scientifically tested tools to improve emotional state and performance.  Champion golfer Ian Woolsnam has been using HeartMath technology to improve his game and also for his health problems (M.E. and Ankylosing Spondylitis). I often use their Freeze Framer / emWave software in my practice. The software analyses your heart rate coherence via a finger sensor.  So why is this useful?

Facing Your Fear

FEAR - we all have it, no one likes it. So what to do about it? Well, there's
a difference between fear and a genuine concern. A genuine concern is, 'I'm
concerned about passing my exams next month', which is a rational response and
may even help in my setting goals to make sure I do pass them. Fear on the
other hand can be extremely debilitating. In Hypnotherapy we would say it's a
psychosomatic response to a negative expectation. faith, is the opposite. With
fear we get a rush of adrenaline into our bodies, not very healthy most of the
time. With faith, we get a rush or endorphins, the good guys, making us feel
good because we have a positive expectancy to our outcome, whether it be,
passing a driving test, making a presentation or having a great day off!

Have Fun Designing Your Year

So another year over and what have you done, as the good song says. What have been your challenges, your successes and your learnings?  This is an excellent time of the year for really looking at our lives and taking stock.  Deciding what you want to let go of, whether they be old emotions or patterns holding you back or people, places or things.

If you are going to set goals this year, as opposed to resolutions, that last slightly longer than your hangover, then here are some pointers to help you begin the process of setting goals.  Personally I love doing this and it’s great to do with a coach or good friend as setting certain goals can really bring up a lot of ‘stuff’ in us.  Then we can actually feel what it is that we want to avoid and why, then that can be cleared up so you won’t sabotage yourself.
