PLANNING YOUR LIFE
I remember a few years ago, when I was doing my training, one of the things
we were asked about during Masters Training was "Where do you want to be in
5 years"?
I can remember vividly thinking: "5 years? I don't even know where I
want to be in 5 hours!".
I have to say, I found this particularly challenging, to have to sit down and
think deeply about all areas of my life and what I wanted to achieve in them.
It was as though I felt superstitious, "What if I plan and it doesn't
happen?". It took a bit more training and coaching for me to realise that
actually, "So what if it doesn't? I won't die, however, there's a good
chance that if I do set goals, that I might achieve them."
The mind loves a well defined target, so just by giving my conscious and
unconscious mind 'a target, a goal, a direction' (call it what you will), it
gives the mind something to aim for. After all, imagine trying to shoot
something and not being sure what it is? Not exactly, focused mind control is
it?
Now, I absolutely 200% believe in goal setting. I have developed a particular
technique over the years, and today, I'd like to share one of the practical
pieces you can do in order to begin creating your future.
Remember your thoughts today will give you your tomorrow.
There is an attachment with this email (it's called "Inspirit
Life Plan"). If you have a partner, ideally you should both do it
together and work out your overall goals, for example, your overall goal might
be in 18 months to move house or start/finish a business, etc. That will be in
the area of habitat. Other areas such as health may be separate, for instance,
you might want to take up Tai Chi and your partner may want to go to the gym.
If you are doing this on your own you just write in what you really desire.
The important thing is to decide where you want to be in 5 years. If this is too
far into the future for you then reduce it to 3 years or 1 year, however, I
would suggest at least 5 years. I would just point out here, that on our
training, we were asked to think about 25 years into the future. Did that press
my buttons? YES, absolutely. Interestingly, it pressed a lot of people's buttons
and I now know why.
A lot of people think in a very self limiting way and are almost afraid to
think 'BIG', because the good old self doubt comes in: "Who am I to dream
this big"? Ever been there, or is it just me? However, let me tell you if
you set puny goals, expect puny results.
Goal Setting is a real art and when I work with clients I make sure we put
their 'VISION' very clearly into their life plan and re-inforce it regularly. If
you tell yourself you never set goals, let me tell you, you do, because even if
you are walking around thinking "oh, I never have time to go the
gym/relax/take that course", etc, that is a goal, and your mind will see to
it that is what you get.
For those of you who used the 'Wheel
of Life' form the other week, you may want to get it out to help you fill in
this one and just notice the areas that you think need more attention.
When I first did this on my training we were given a whole morning to think
about it and discuss it with other people, so do take your time over this and
remember, as always, get into a good 'state' before you think about doing it.
The other important thing is not to get involved in the 'how' of it, or the
seemingly 'impossibility' of it, just do it.
Next week I will give you tips on how to put your goals into place.

of goal setting in "YOUR BEST YEAR EVER"
