WEEKLY COACHING TIP
#115
IF
ONLY ...
I was thinking
about money the other day, as you do, when I found myself thinking along the
lines of 'if only I knew a few years ago what I know now about money'. Or
to be more specific, if only I knew the internal workings/mind set of
creating wealth. When I did my first training in self development we had
quite an extensive reading list and I am amazed now that I hadn't chosen one
single book on finance, even though I was struggling financially at that time.
Interesting? Yes I've always been a bit of a slow learner!
So when I caught
myself thinking, 'if only', the other day, I was reminded of one of the books
I read a few years ago which basically expounds all the excuses we give
ourselves to remain where we are.
The book is by
Napoleon Hill and it's called "Think and Grow Rich", it's many, many
years old. However, the principles are still very much true today as
they were then. In fact, many books nowadays, are really based on these
principles. If you haven't read it, I would definitely recommend it.
I often say to my
clients: 'your mind is a tool, either you use it, or it uses you'! Well
money, or the mind set around money, is exactly the same.
What do you tell
yourself about money, generally, 'there's not enough', 'it's a struggle',
'I'll never be rich' or, 'there is an abundance of money', 'money is
attracted to me'?
I have to tell
you, I don't come across many people who think the latter, I wonder why?
Well again, it comes down to how we've been 'programmed', what did your
parents believe around money, your friends, what does society tell you about
money? What are you currently believing about money and are these
thoughts empowering you? There are a lot of fears around money and there also
lots of excuses too. Today I thought we'd look at the excuses.
The thing about
excuses are they really do seem very reasonable when we tell ourselves them
that's why we believe them. So today let's just take a look and see if
we tell ourselves negative thoughts around money. I'm going to write a
lists of 'If only...' and just see if any of these excuses apply to you.
These are from Napoleon Hill's book and he calls them 'alibis'. He goes
on to say people know the reasons for failure and they have 'air tight' alibis
to explain their own lack of achievement.
These can be applied to any area of your life, not just money.
If none of the
above apply to you, congratulations! If some do, how can you change your
thinking around them, presuming you want to?
A good way to
begin, is by getting very specific, for instance, supposing one of your 'if
only's' is, "If only I could meet the right people..." .
Get creative in
your thinking and stop kidding yourself!
Just by asking
these questions to yourself you will be sending your mind on a 'search' and it
will come up with answers.
The only thing
you have to do is get clear about what you want and stop making excuses to
yourself.
Until next week Onwards and Upwards and have a week without IF ONLY's! 2004 Denise Bosque All Rights Reserved |
