THE POWER TO CHANGE

It is getting to that time of year again! New Year's resolutions, what you want for next year, what you are prepared to do for it OR just create another wish list and hope they come true.  Maybe you are one of those people who think that you don't do new year resolutions. Well I've got news for you, you do! They may not be particularly for the new year, but nonetheless, you do make them.

Basically we are all goal orientated, we are programmed to have goals. So whether you actually write them down consciously formulating them or just go around having thoughts (positive or negative) e.g. I really need to get a different job, I'm very stressed, I'm getting fitter all the time. These are all goals, your subconscious mind just gives you more of what you focus on.

So really you might as well consciously create your goals and think about them in a conscious and unconscious way as opposed to just let random thoughts come through.  Which is a bit like having people in a really crowded shop push you around and you let them!

You know, it's so easy just to think "Oh, goals, what's the use, I set the same things every year and after 2 weeks it goes by the wayside.." etc.  But you know, you can really take hold of your own internal power and change all that, if you really are prepared to commit to it once and for all. People always feel and act according to what they imagine to be true about themselves. Change what you imagine, change the pictures and the internal dialogue to something that is hugely empowering for you and you will definitely see more positive results.

Is it going to take a bit of work, yes. 

Is it going to mean sometimes being out of your comfort zone, yes.

Does it mean sometimes it may feel difficult, yes. 

BUT DO YOU WANT THE CHANGE or do you want to continue with exactly what you have. If you are dissatisfied with an area of your life, stop whingeing and DO SOMETHING NOW!  The work is so massively worth it.  This year why not make it THE YEAR when you really do it, no more pussyfooting, pathetic half tries, just the knowledge that you are now in the process of achieving what you WANT, what you truly desire.

Goal setting is fantastic I love doing them, they are such fun.  It's also great when working with clients helping them to set and achieve theirs. I use cognitive, holistic and emotional strategies to set goals.

The most important thing I have learned over the years is, when you want something, not only do you have to see or get a sense of it, you MUST feel it, somewhere in your body, you must feel that goal, the excitement, the peace, whatever it is and then keep playing it over and over like a video. If you think you don't visualise too well, run it like a CD, just as long as you FEEL IT!

What I thought would be useful today is to start a very gentle run up to the the New Year and any desires you wish to have in your life for 2005. The following are just a few questions for you to think about, then go to the link below and you will be able to download a form which will really help you to begin to look at your life and to think about your goals. Next week I will give you a form which will help you to begin to set them more fully.  Right now is just to start the process of thinking about them and to mull them over for a week.

I would really recommend that you print this off and when you are alone begin to think of something that makes you feel good/special/relaxed, it should bring and inner and outer smile to you.  It is so necessary to be in a good state of mind and body when setting goals (or whatever word you prefer e.g. desires).  So if you are actually taking the time to do this, great, congratulate yourself immediately, you are taking control of your inner power to change!

SEVEN SIMPLE QUESTIONS FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT before you go to the Goals List form for a more in depth look at your life and goals

  1. Where do you want to be in 5 years?
  2. Where do you want to be in 1 year?
  3. How great is your life right now?
  4. What is your most urgent problem?
  5. If you could have anything what would it be?
  6. What holds you back the most?
  7. What does your ideal life look like?

Now go to the link and print off Goals List form. Do it then keep it handy for next week when there will be another part to it.  Have fun creating your future!
