WEEKLY COACHING TIP #146 CONNECTING CONSCIOUSLY I have a question for you: Where are you in your life right now, right on track?
Unless you are extremely content with you and your life right now, I would recommend you give the following some thought. Often when we are unhappy about something we tend to give it a lot of thought and ponder on it a lot, until it becomes a dominant thought. It accompanies us and colours our life wherever we go and whatever we do. In NLP we always say what you focus on grows. For a long time I knew that and understood it intellectually, however, it took a lot longer to really know it! What I mean is, that over the years of working with clients and on myself, I have merged and fused many different techniques according to the clients needs and I now know its really about the feelings that come up when you are focusing on something. Why do people, when they are giving themselves a bad day, thinking about negative stuff that brings unwanted feelings into the body, do that? They literally keep on giving themselves a really bad time of it. Its rather like someone putting their hand in a fire and saying Oh that really hurts and someone says to them then stop doing it, do something that doesnt hurt, but they choose to keep doing it. Its an interesting thought isnt it? So why do we do it? Often its because we dont realise, we live so unconsciously in habitual patterns of behaviour, we just keep on doing it even if it does hurt, because thats what weve always done. Not only that, but people around us and society tells us this is the way, this then reinforces the whole process and we become stuck. Basically disconnected from who we really are. To break this pattern we have to train ourselves, just like going to the gym or training for a marathon. Our mind is the most powerful and amazing tool we have, so you might as well get it to work for you! Todays exercise is to help you become aware of your patterns of behaviour that may not be serving you.
i. What needs to be expressed here and to whom? ii. How could I release this for the highest good of everyone? i.e. Do I need to speak to someone about the issue? iii. What choices could I make right now that would help me feel better? (even if its just slightly better)
i. What is working? ii. Why is it working? iii. What is not quite right yet? iv. What would make it more right? i.e. How do I want to feel? v. What is the next action I can take to feel more of the way I want to feel? Bonus Tip: Its a good idea to have the above questions written on a card or paper somewhere to help you remind yourself of living consciously, of having that sense of well being that is your birth right throughout your day no matter what is happening. The more you do this, the greater the habit will become and you shift up to feel better and better about life.
