WEEKLY COACHING TIP #159
FLAP YOUR WINGS
Are you a creative person?
Stupid question, we are all creative, that is why we are here, to create.
|
Have you ever had an idea and thought, this is great, I can really see it
working, but dont really think it through and just leave it on the
shelf. Then next thing you know, someone is doing your very idea and you
think, well that was my idea, I wish Id done it. When you first have an
idea, this is the creative part of yourself, working subconsciously, that
begins to nudge this idea into your awareness. You think its come out of
the blue, but it hasnt, nothing comes out of the blue. If you have an idea
you are playing with right now and you decided to run with it, this can have
amazing consequences like the
Butterfly Effect (Chaos
Theory). Something very small such as the flap of a butterflys wings on
one side of this planet, could affect the weather on the other side of the
planet.
Of course, that doesnt mean every single idea you get is a winner. But you
know when you get a really good feeling, that is your intuition, and it
usually pops up when you are quiet, often when you are not even thinking
about the idea. In this modern age we tend to boo hoo, things such as
intuition and ancient wisdom, but this is our guiding force. We are often so
busy doing, that we pay scant attention to our feelings. |

There is currently a huge renaissance on this planet and many thousands of
people are having this awareness and becoming more spiritual. Even in large
businesses people are beginning to use more esoteric approaches, which 5 years
ago, would have been unheard of, e.g. businesses in central London where they
bring spiritual healers once a month for their employees.
When you have a major decision to make in your life its great to way up the
pros and cons, but then listen to your feelings. You know we talk all the time
in organ language, saying things like I just felt it in my gut, or I was
gutted (interestingly, that is where a lot of emotions are stored). That is why
you should avoid eating when you are stressed or angry. We also say things like
his remarks stung. But I digress!
Throughout history, great achievers in all walks of life have used both sides of
their brain: The creative side that really wants to party, be expressive and
doesnt understand no or impossible. The logical side is more concerned with
structure and the how, this thinking tends to put the breaks on things.
Faraday and Einstein both used their day dreaming a lot to get answers to
their questions. Einstein said Imagination is more important than knowledge.
So with that in mind, next time you have an idea and you really want to explore
it, you can use the following questions to use both cognitive questions and more
right brain questions. You never know your idea could be the next great thing!
First make yourself comfortable and get quiet with yourself, even this can be
challenging for some of us, but persevere, then ask yourself the following
questions, you may want to write any answers down:
Working with the Creative side of your Brain
-
Whats your
idea?
-
Has it just
come into your mind very recently or has it been something youve toyed with
for sometime?
-
Close your
eyes and focus inwards on your idea:
-
What
feeling comes up? Is it positive or not?
-
Sometimes
we can see something in our minds eye, a symbol, which we may or may not
know what it means immediately.
-
Sit with
it and ask what it means, dont try to force an answer. You may find one
comes forth almost immediately or in the next day or two.
-
There may
be a word that spontaneously comes to your mind.
-
If you
dont have any immediate feeling about going ahead with it the idea, if it
doesnt excite you, leave it alone. Dont get involved in the how to do it
thats later.
-
If you do
get an immediate positive feeling, ask: Whats the very first thing I need
to do/know before I begin. The answer may be something seemingly silly,
e.g. tidy your bedroom. Dont discard it.
-
Wait for
any other answers or symbols.
-
Then
write them down just as it comes out, dont try and edit or judge at this
stage.
-
Sleep on
it and if still seems like a good idea, go with it.
Working with the Logical side of your Brain
(from a coach called Michaela Scherr)
-
Whats your
idea?
-
For what
purpose do you want to pursue this idea?
-
Where does
your idea come from?
-
Whats the
purpose of your idea?
-
What do you
need to do first?
-
Can you
achieve your outcome in seven steps or less?
-
What are
the seven steps?
-
Who will
you need to involve? During the conceptual phase it is prudent to keep ideas
to yourself until youre clear in your mind how you will achieve your
outcome. Then seek professional advice.
-
When you
list the seven steps begin with the smallest first and work your way up.
-
When will
this come to fruition? How long do you give yourself?
If you do both of these exercises, you may be surprised at some of the
differences in thoughts and feelings that come up and how some are reinforced.
If you really have a good idea, run with it, be bold, no-one ever got anywhere
by not taking a risk.
Flap your wings and create an effect.
