A CHANGE WOULD DO YOU GOOD!
Hello, its been quite a while since I last wrote a WCT owing to work and Ive
missed you!
So how are you, whats been happening in your life. Were half way through July
how are your goals going, are you having fun in your life or does something need
to change?
Its interesting the whole concept of change most human beings hate it If its
new it might go wrong, what if, etc.
Whenever you attempt change or indeed, have just made a change in your life,
know that there WILL be self doubts, it comes with the territory, so accept it,
it's normal (now and again), if it comes up lots, you may have some re-thinking
to do. Remember, the thing about change is, it isn't always easy, but nothing
happens if you don't get out of your comfort zone.
Stay on 'track' by reminding yourself of your goal and why you wanted this
change. Realise that the odd self doubt are just the 'old tapes' playing in your
head from the past.
The secret is, instead of developing a bleak outlook and slipping into your old
pattern, say to yourself STOP! If you are very visual you may event want to see
a red traffic light for instance and perhaps hear a strong voice, whatever works
for you. Then re-affirm your goal and who you are becoming.
Now you have focus and what you focus on, GROWS!
I once had a client who set his computer alarm to remind him to take 2 minutes
every hour to breathe away his stress. This really helped him condition his
new behaviour. He then began feeling much better and it eventually became part
of his behaviour so he did it naturally.
Make sure your support systems are in place to help you i.e. partner, friend,
coach, mentor, parents, inspiring literature, whatever.
If you have your own business, this very much applies. You may be too close to
the issues for a healthy, perspective. Remember if you always do what you've
always done, you'll always get what you've always got!
When setting your goals instead of the usual SMART model, for a change try the
GROW model (it leads to the same place, but, it's a CHANGE).
-
Goal:
specific
-
Reality:
start with your present state and know what you can achieve (desired outcome)
given the reality at that moment
-
Options:
what else can you do, who else has these skills and could help you, where can
you go for information?
-
What
is to be done, strategies, what are your resources, course of action, make the
first move now, whether it be phone call, letter, email but do it.
Then visualise it (your subconscious doesn't know the difference between a real
event and an imagined event, so get to work on your dreams NOW.)
Until next time, Onwards and upwards and keep growing!
